Content Marketing vs Inbound Marketing Explained in 10 Seconds

We’ll make this short and sweet. Content marketing is not the same as inbound marketing. Content marketing is a SUBSET of inbound marketing. And that’s pretty much all you need to know.

Now, just to elaborate a bit more to satisfy those who appreciate the longer blog post, we’ll explain why:

Inbound marketing is the methodology of attracting, engaging, and delighting consumers through relevant and timely content.

Think of it this way:

  • Content marketing = a message
  • Inbound marketing = how the message is conveyed, shared, targeted, delivered, the medium used, etc.

As you can see, inbound is a bit more in-depth than content marketing—BUT, we should mention that content marketing includes ALL content. Whereas inbound tends to emphasize more inbound content (obviously), content marketing includes both an inbound and outbound approach, which looks like this:

  • Infographics
  • Microsites
  • Newsletters
