At Creative Arcade, we’re always looking for ways to sharpen our craft, whether it’s writing, content creation, campaigns, or graphic design. Recently, we came across a simple yet surprisingly useful framework for making any piece of writing more effective: The ABCD Approach.
Already Been Chewed…. I’m just messing with you.
This approach is about stepping back, reading with a critical eye, and asking the right questions. Here’s how it works:
A – Awesome
What parts stood out or hit the mark? Spot those golden sentences, fresh ideas, or moments that make readers nod along. Highlight them and double down. That’s the energy your whole piece should have.
B – Boring
Where did your reader tune out? Cut, tighten, and rework flat sections. Keep your audience’s attention locked in with language that moves, not meanders.
C – Confusing
Which parts needed a second read? If something trips your reader up, it’s a signal to clarify or simplify. Good writing feels effortless to read, even when it’s communicating complex ideas.
D – Didn’t Believe
What felt weak, sketchy, or unconvincing? If your audience can’t trust what you’re saying, they won’t stay with you. Strengthen your argument with evidence, examples, or sharper reasoning. Make every claim something your readers can lean on.
Why we like this framework
The ABCD approach works on everything, from full campaigns to quick captions. It encourages objectivity, helps teams provide better feedback, and (bonus!) turns editing into a creative process rather than a painful one.
When we use this approach, we’re not just polishing words; we’re making sure every message is clear, credible, and worth reading. Because great writing isn’t about saying more; it’s about saying what matters, better.
